Room to Read – World Change Begins With Children

Room to Read believes that world change starts with children’s education. According to CEO Geetha Murali, “We are not giving up on educating the world’s most vulnerable children.” And Room to Read’s commitment to this mission is demonstrated by their accomplishments.

·      Globally 32 million children have benefited from their literacy programs

·      36 million books have been distributed

·      200,000 teachers and librarians have been trained

They have a robust network of global chapters made up of volunteer groups of passionate and committed individuals spearheading local outreach, fundraising and leading activism initiatives in their communities. This includes 41,000 community partners worldwide.

Each chapter adds to the nonprofit’s ability to create world change by bringing Room to Read to their communities and raising the critical funds needed to make education a reality for millions of children.

In partnership with UNICEF Room to Read assisted with the design of reading assessments and supplemental teaching and learning materials and storybooks in both Myanmar and English for Rohingya children.

In response to the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in 2021 the nonprofit adapted and translated children’s books in Dari and Pashto, the two primary languages for the displaced. Children. In the U.S. Room to Read distributed a 12-book Afghan children’s book collection, totaling 52,000 books,  in communities with large populations of Afghan children refugees and immigrants.
